Please consider the following information when planning your journey ahead of race day.
RAIL
There are two railway stations in Warrington town centre:
Warrington Bank Quay is the closest train station to Bank Park and the Golden Gates, where stage five finishes, with direct connections to Glasgow and London.
Warrington Central Railway Station has direct links to Manchester and Liverpool and is a stone’s throw from all of the main town centre amenities. It is less than a 10-minute walk to Bank Park and the Golden Gates.
BUS
The central bus Interchange is located on Winwick Street (WA1 1UH), with bus routes and stops across the borough.
Plan your journey by visiting Warrington’s Own Buses website and explore the timetables.
BIKE
Check out warrington.gov.uk/cycling to find the latest cycle maps and routes into and around the town centre. There’s bike storage aplenty, with cycle parking locations marked out on our town cycle map.
CAR PARKING
There are lots of car parks you can choose from, with a handy parking map available on the council website.
However, if you plan ahead, you can leave the car in the garage and get into the town centre by bike, train or bus.
ROAD CLOSURES
Please note that Sankey Street and some of the surrounding roads in the town centre will be closed from 5am, with the section of Liverpool Road to Sankey Street closed from 1pm. Read the full road closure map on the council’s Tour of Britain page.
Due to the nature of the event, a rolling road closure will be enforced . This means that roads on and around the race route will have a no parking restriction on them from 9am until 4pm to ensure that there are no obstructions for the safety of the riders.
A number of roads will be closed between 2pm and 4pm. Other roads along the route will be closed for a shorter period to allow the race to pass by – usually for approximately 20 minutes before the lead riders arrive – and then for approximately the same time again to allow the riders and race convoy to pass. Once the convoy has passed, roads will be reopened, although it is likely that there will be delays.
Don’t forget to visit the Tour Village close to the finish at Bank Park, off Sankey Street (WA1 1UH), offering fans a big screen showing full live coverage of the stage, plus exhibits from race partners.
The Tour Village will be open from 11am with activities running throughout the day – from bike displays, stalls, exhibitors, food and drink, plenty of activities and a big screen where you can follow the tour live as it comes through Warrington.
Feel free to also browse Golden Square shopping centre, Time Square – the new leisure and hospitality quarter of the town centre – and catch your breath in the cultural quarter which features bars, restaurants, Queen’s Gardens, the Pyramid Arts Centre and Parr Hall.
