The Prostate Cancer Charity
01.05.2009
Organisers of The Tour of Britain and The Prostate Cancer Charity are pleased to announce their new partnership, forming the initiative ‘Unite ByCycling’, which has been set up to raise awareness of prostate cancer, and support for men and families affected by the disease.
The partnership will feature a range of cycling events, involving both professional cyclists and the general public, with one goal in mind: to unite people through cycling and raise awareness of prostate cancer.
One man dies every hour from prostate cancer in the UK, with over 35,000 men diagnosed with the disease every year. By uniting through cycling, The Tour of Britain and The Prostate Cancer Charity aim to raise funds and awareness of prostate cancer.
John Neate, Chief Executive of The Prostate Cancer Charity, said: “This partnership represents a really exciting new chapter in the life of the Charity and a great opportunity for us to raise awareness and funds, as well as gain support on a local and national level. The Charity is excited to be involved with the fast growing sport of cycling and the UK’s leading cycle event.”
Among these events will be the inaugural Tour Ride, a chance for members of the public to take on the challenges of a Tour of Britain stage for the first time ever.
This Etape du Tour style event will allow cyclists to measure themselves over exactly the same roads as the professionals will tackle during a stage of the 2009 Tour of Britain, with details of that stage to be unveiled soon.
